  • Polling Site Concerns Addressed

The District, as we do each year, considers additional polling sites in all three of our counties. This year we evaluated the cost for additional polling sites and availability of election officials. Based on the information we received from county election officials, there were concerns about not being able to staff these additional sites. This was the primary factor for not setting additional sites in Cooke and Grayson counties. We have only received one complaint at this time, but wanted to address this concern. Pilot Point’s election history has been to provide one early voting site in the City of Pilot Point for all three counties. Again, each year we will consider additional locations based on the availability to staff those sites.

The following statement was provided by a staff attorney from the Office of the Texas Secretary of State Elections Division: For an election occurring on the May uniform election date, if you only have one early voting location (no temporary branch locations) then there is no requirement that an entity use county election precincts for their election. In this situation, the authority conducting the election may draw their own election day precincts. As you described below, The City of Pilot Point has one early voting site for Grayson and Cooke County voters, therefore they are not required to use county election precincts and can have only one election day precinct for the voters in both Grayson and Cooke Counties.
